UCLA researchers have a strong interest in Alzheimer’s disease. For example, in 2004, UCLA’s Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI) began compiling all the data regarding the biology of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease that was generated by the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). ADNI is an ambitious, worldwide effort by scientists to define the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. On July 2, UCLA Health System announced that the effort has been expanded to include the genome sequencing of the more than 800 individuals enrolled in ADNI.
