Ongoing Investigations

ADNI data is made available to researchers around the world. As such, there are many active research projects accessing and applying the shared ADNI data. To further encourage Alzheimer’s disease research collaboration, and to help prevent duplicate efforts, the list below shows the specific research focus of the active ADNI investigations. This information is requested annually as a requirement for data access.

Proposed Analysis: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is considered as a preclinical stage of AD. We studied the MR images with 3D texture analysis and VBM. Texture features of the hippocampus were extracted from gray level co-occurrence matrix and run length matrix. These parameters mainly including energy (ENG), entropy (ETP), grey level nonuniformity (GLN) and run length nonuniformity (RLN) were tested among three groups. Meanwhile, the correlations between parameters and MMSE were calculated, which is widely used in clinical application. And the groups were distinguished based on support vector machines (SVM). We assume that 3D texture analysis could reflect the pathological changes of hippocampus in patients with early AD, and could be helpful to early diagnosis of AD.
